House of Nobility

House of Nobility

On the way into Gamla Stan you’ll notice a large ornate building named “The House of Nobility” that in Swedish is called Riddarhuset and was built between 1641-1672. Interestingly the name can literally be translated as “House of Knights”, as the knights known in Swedish as riddare belong to the higher ranks of the Swedish nobility. Today it’s run as both a corporation and a building thats main role is to maintain all records from a historical perspective as well as acting as an interest group on behalf of the Swedish nobility. When you’re done here head over the road and visit the The Medieval Museum

Tips: It’s possible to take a guided tours in both English and German.
